Levanter Winds

Levanter Winds picture

Graduates from the Royal Academy of Music, Royal College of Music, and Guildhall School of Music and Drama formed Levanter Winds in 2002. Their diverse recital repertoire encompasses a wide spectrum of genres, from baroque to contemporary music.

Equally at home with quintet masterworks such as Barber's Summer Music and Ligeti's Six Bagatelles as well as lighter repertoire and transcriptions, their varied catalogue of music ranges from Mozart and Haydn to Scott Joplin and George Gershwin.

Recent recitals given by Levanter Winds include appearances at Lincoln's Inn Fields, St. Michael's Chester Square, and the National Portrait Gallery. The group is also involved in educational and community schemes in an effort to bring wind music to as wide an audience as possible, including hospital recitals and nursery school workshops. Levanter Winds joined the Live Music Now scheme in November 2004, which will allow further work in this area.

Individually the members of Levanter Winds pursue careers that involve both teaching and playing, and members have performed with such ensembles as London Winds, Royal Scottish National Orchestra, Britten Sinfonia, Southbank Sinfonia, and the Britten-Pears Orchestra.
